Join the quest to restore Gerald Island’s natural beauty! BC Marine Trails is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help us remove invasive English ivy and protect the island’s unique ecosystem. Together, we can support native plant growth, preserve biodiversity, and create a healthier, natural environment for future generations. Come for the day, or camp overnight! Participants must have their own watercraft to arrive and return from Gerald.

Ace Brewing, with the support of BC Marine Trails, is hosting their second cleanup of the Courtenay River, along the Riverway Heritage Walk. Meet at 10am at Ace Brewing (150 Mansfield Drive, Courtenay) before heading out with the volunteer crew! After the clean, all are invited back to Ace Brewing to enjoy 15% off lunchtime food and beverages. Help us keep our local waterways clean, and prevent debris from entering the ocean! This event takes place in the Territory of the K’ómoks First Nation.

All this and more will be answered in our upcoming expedition meal prep workshop. We’ll cover pre-trip planning, shopping, food storage, rehydration methods, cooking technologies, and some tried-and-true tricks and tips. This online presentation will help you feel confident planning and executing delicious and nutritious meals on your next adventure.

We are offering an information session to give existing and new Coastal Caretakers an opportunity to bring forward suggestions, ask questions, and learn more about upcoming opportunities.
Whether you are a long time Coastal Caretaker, or looking to get involved in the program (no time commitment needed!), this is a great opportunity to meet the community, learn, and get excited for the upcoming season!
Vargas Island Marine Debris Clean

This 5-day trip will be a circumnavigation of Vargas Island with stops at most of the major recreation beaches. At each stop we will work as a team to collect any marine debris that has accumulated & package it for later removal. Participation requires expertise navigating class 3 waters. Hazards include: swell, boomers, surf landings, surf launches. Volunteers must be prepared with your own kayak, weather appropriate clothing, safety equipment, camping gear, food, water and a positive attitude ready to make a difference!
