To volunteer with BC Marine Trails means that you are supporting our work of building and maintaining a network of safe and sustainable marine trails along the BC Coast. From providing input into policy and planning, taking on tasks that fit a specific skillset or interest, to simply joining us for a beach clean, there are many ways you can support us.

Additionally, we have three annual stewardship trips that are always looking for keen paddling volunteers. These include, Gerald Island spring ivy pull, Vargas Island beach clean, and Gerald Island fall ivy pull.

Are you interested in citizen based reconciliation? Our First Nation Engagement program involves working alongside over 70 coastal First Nations to help direct recreational traffic, safeguard cultural heritage sites and communicate visitation guidelines for traditional territories. We are seeking people to join our committee who have experience working with First Nations and hold an understanding of the colonial context within which Canada exists.

Chart the course that the BC Marine Trails system takes. Be a part of the highly important planning work to develop new sites and trails, while helping manage site inventory and associated data.

Do you like to get your hands dirty? Help create and oversee projects designed to protect the coast and the sites we love to use. Many forward-looking projects are underway that will play a significant role in how the public uses the BC Coast for recreation. Be part of this important and ground-breaking initiative.

We are seeking creative people to work with our fast-paced and energetic team! Help us get the word out about the great work BCMT does, through our social media channels, organizing events and building our public profile.

Already have the skills, or looking to learn some new ones? IT Team members play an important role in supporting all of BCMT’s campaigns and initiatives. System administration, Help Desk activities, and maintaining our website are key areas of support.

Collaborative Cleanups

We conduct a number of on-the-ground initiatives annually. These mostly include marine debris clean-ups and invasive species removals. Once dates are finalized, we typically add these events to our calendar and promote them on our social media channels and newsletter.

Our efforts help alleviate some of the pressures our marine environments and local wildlife face and help us build and maintain a safe and sustainable network of marine trails. As we are growing our volunteer community, we are looking for more means to steward the coast together.

¹this activity requires basic paddling skills (volunteer must be comfortable going out on the water, paddling gear can be arranged)
²this activity requires strong paddling skills (volunteer must be experienced paddling longer distances in various weather conditions)
