Highlights
Caves, arches and islets on a day trip in the bay at Port Renfrew.
Considerations

Wind and waves in the strait of Juan de Fuca can spill into the bay. Could be some waves at river mouths on a flooding tide.

Conditions

Drizzly, low wind and low swell.

Route Description

Great day paddle for a car camping trip exploring the south west coast of Vancouver Island. The Pancheetdaht campground has many beach front sites to enjoy the sound of waves on the shore.  The launch at the north side of the bay near the Gordon River has a nice protected area from the surf, there was low swell when we were there. The shore line on the north side has many little caves and arches that you could paddle through on higher tides, too low for us.  Keep an eye out for west coast trail hikers. The south shoreline is populated and lots of interesting houses to view and the little town of Port Renfrew could be accessed by the dock and the hotel has delicious food that we tried out the day before.
