Cape Scott Marine Trail

This marine trail consists of complex Class 4 waters — knowledge of sea state, weather forecasting, and extensive paddling experience on exposed coast are highly recommended before considering this route.

The Cape Scott Marine Trail offers a rugged adventure for experienced paddlers, stretching from Port Hardy to Coal Harbour at the end of Quatsino Sound. At the northern tip of Vancouver Island, where Queen Charlotte Sound meets the Pacific, this trail immerses paddlers in untamed, breathtaking landscapes. Big waves, strong winds, and long distances require thorough planning, but the journey rewards with white sand beaches, turquoise waters, and diverse wildlife.

The trail’s northern section shares campsites with the North Coast Trail, giving the option to incorporate coastal hiking into your expedition.
