Your donations protect the coast for future generations

General donations are crucial to project continuity at BC Marine Trails.

While no current projects are funded solely by donor contributions, much of our work relies on a diverse range of grants, which often leave gaps in coverage. These grants typically support specific aspects of projects and staff roles, but they may not fully cover the total costs or projects may extend beyond the grant’s designated timeframe. That’s where donor contributions make an essential difference, allowing us to address unexpected needs and ensure the success of our initiatives.

For instance, in 2024, an $18,900 grant was allocated to map improvements, but as the project grew in scope and ambition, these funds proved insufficient. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, $12,000 in additional funds helped bridge the gap, enabling us to complete this vital work.

Your support ensures that projects like these can continue, overcoming financial hurdles and creating lasting impacts. Thank you for being part of our journey!

Annual campaign goal: $20,000

We’re building respectful, long-term relationships with coastal First Nations through our six-step reconciliation framework. This work includes sharing data on recreational use, aligning with Nations’ management directives, and trail development. Donations directly support our First Nations Liaison position and on-the-ground site assessments that advance respectful coastal recreation.

Annual campaign goal: $5,000

Our Environmental Stewardship Program empowers paddlers and boaters to care for the BC coast. Through Site Condition Reports and the Coastal Caretaker Program, users help monitor over 1,500 marine sites, informing action by First Nations, BC Parks, and stewardship partners. We also lead cleanups, remove invasive species, and support marine debris drop zones across the coast. At the heart of it all is our Marine Trails Code of Conduct, a guide to low-impact, respectful recreation.

Your donation helps maintain our Environmental Stewardship Coordinator position and offsets the costs of cleanups, outreach, and restoration projects, turning recreation into real stewardship.

Annual campaign goal: $2,500

Trailblazers are recognized BC Marine Trails leaders who care deeply about the BC Coast and support the hard work of BCMT, its volunteers, and staff. The generous contributions from Trailblazers ensure that others are able to enjoy the Coast safely, sustainably, and respectfully. Trailblazers contribute annual donations of $250 or greater.

As a community-based nonprofit and charity, BC Marine Trails is sustained by the generous individuals, families, and organizations who go above and beyond in their commitment as donors and Trailblazers. Donations enable us to do critical BC coastal work in trails development, First Nations engagement, stewardship, and conservation.

Our annual goal for our Trailblazer campaign is $8,500

It’s a fair question — and one we hear often. To ensure your donation remains fully tax-deductible, it can’t be tied to any benefit or seen as an exchange, including membership perks. As much as we’d love to thank donors with membership, CRA rules mean we have to keep them separate. If you’d like to join as a member as well, we deeply appreciate the extra step — it helps us grow a stronger, more connected community.

Yes, all donations over $10 to BC Marine Trails will be accompanied by a charitable donation receipt, which you can input into your next tax return.
