Landing Comments:

Potentially difficult surf landing, light to heavy depending on conditions. N, S ends more protected, may be calm. S corner has hook for additional landing protection.

Camp Comments:

Entire expansive sand beach suited to camping. Random wilderness camping allowed. Open air toilet. ‘Fingers’ at N end (rock bound coves) popular camp location. Please use animal-proof steel food bins at N and S ends of bay.

Other Comments:

Water at creek in centre of bay. Attractive long sandy beach. Hiking trail across S Vargas I. See Vargas Island Provincial Park . Note: The Ahousaht Nation is requesting a voluntary $15/day payment in 2022. The territory is patrolled by a yellow boat called the “Ahous Guardian”. See Vargas map . Pre-purchase permits can be acquired at Lone Cone Hostel and Paddle West Kayaking. During the COVID-19 pandemic, camping is restricted to Vargas Island and Robert Point. Day use sites off Vargas are Whaler It and Blunden I. N & E Meares I is open.
