Landing Comments:
Easy on gently sloped sand beach. N aspect. Sand bar to E.
Camp Comments:
Camp either end of beach or on upland clearing at E end. Centre of beach floods at moderate water levels. Entire beach floods at Springs. Please use animal-proof steel food bin. Green throne pit toilet in good condition (2019). Sometimes used by guided groups.
Other Comments:
Small year-round creek enters W end. We have created a Vargas Island webpage with information about Ahousaht passes and a link to the Ahousaht map where there is allowable camping and day use. During the COVID-19 pandemic, camping is restricted to Vargas Island and Robert Point. Day use sites off Vargas are Whaler It and Blunden I. N & E Meares I are open.

I camped here in the forested site, on the east side of the beach between March 28th – 30th, 2022. There’s very nice views of the Catface range to the east. The beach can experience some surf, surf tends to be less in the middle of the beach. A direct line of sight to Ahousaht is apparent on Flores Island and there’s moderate boat traffic through Calmus Passage. The food cache and green throne toilet are nice features to have considering the Wolf activity on Vargas Island. I was told by a local that has lived in the area for 20+ years that no Bears or Cougars live on Vargas Island but it’s not to suggest that these animals might not ever visit in my opinion.
