Easy on protected shell, pebble beach.

Camp Comments:

Two sites in upland, at least two more on beach. According to the Ahousaht Band (Dec 2021) only day use is allowed on Blunden Islet. Currently camping is only allowed on Vargas island. Anything north of Vargas up to Hesquiaht territories is closed for day use and overnight camping.

Other Comments:

As a result of the Covid pandemic, in June 2021 the Maaqutusiis Hahoulthee Stewardship Society requested closure and limited use of traditional territorial waters and lands sites in the Vargas Island area in Clayoquot Sound. The marine area is patrolled by yellow boat “Ahous Guardian” and some campers have been asked to leave. The stewardship society has listed Blunden Island as Day Use only with no camping allowed. BCMT’s shows Blunden Islet East just off Blunden Island as a camp site so there may be some confusion on the societies part. Both Blunden Island and Blunden Islet East are within the Vargas Island BC Provincial Park. The society has requested that all kayakers stay within the boundaries outlined on the route map until further notice. See Vargas map .
A very pretty, secluded and protected site. See Vargas Island Provincial Park
