Langdale Ferry Terminal

Langdale Terminal presents a wonderful opportunity for both the Salish Sea and Sea to Sky marine trails, as the terminal is under redevelopment and will include a beach access, which in recent years, due to security measures, has been fenced off. An aspect of the redevelopment is a change to tickets on both sides rather than prepayment on the Horseshoe Bay side. This means a pedestrian ticket area, possibly at the end of the dock, and a new office structure adjacent to the beach on the north end of the dock. This office will frame a public open area with a beach access, allowing easy access for kayaks. BC Ferries management has been made aware of the BCMTNA interest in this location and is willing to accommodate the walk-on, walk-off initiative. In addition, The dock is being redeveloped and will include a tie-up facility for those wishing to use a dock rather than the beach to launch.

Terminal access:

From roadway outside terminal enter through vehicle and/or pedestrian gate. Wheel boat to foot of lower loading ramp with bicycles.

Terminal egress:

Reverse of access.

Launch information:

Security fencing has cut off public access from north parking lot to the excellent adjacent sand beach. This access is anticipated to be opened and made fully accessible with future terminal changes. A second option is wheel your kayak to the new dock. A smaller dock is available for tie-up, which is situated between the long dock and the shore. Paddlers are not to tie up to the long dock. This option is available now, whereas the beach access is not.

Logistics:

Ferry fees: All journeys are considered to be prepaid if travelling to Horseshoe Bay, but this will change as part of the terminal redevelopment, at which time tickets will have to be purchased from either end. Passenger count taken at entry gate.

Parking: Paid: Available immediately to north of terminal. Needed infrequently as fewer kayakers travel with vehicles in this direction.

Distances: From beach to dock: 300m when access is possible. From next closest beach at Hopkins Wharf, 1.22km distant.
